We Care About Our World

Looking after the world we live in is the responsibility of
every individual and every company. At OHAUS we are committed to
keeping our environmental impact to a minimum and ensuring the
highest safety standards for our employees, our customers and our
customers' customers alike.
Environmental Programs
Everyone is aware of the essential role that trees play in
absorbing carbon from the atmosphere, but in addition the felling
of trees and processing into paper produces high levels of
greenhouse gases. To limit our environmental impact OHAUS provides
as many electronic tools as possible to support our customers -
such as this website. However we appreciate that having a printed
document is sometimes necessary, so we print our brochures on
"green" recycled paper.
In Europe we have set up a framework for the collection and
disposal of our products when they finally reach the end of their
long working life, thus limiting the environmental impact caused by
landfill sites. This framework meets the requirements of the
European WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive
(2002/96/EC).
Instructions to both customers and recyclers/treatment facilities
wishing to obtain disassembly information are provided by following

WEEE Compliance in Europe
Under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
Directive and implementing regulations, when customers buy new
electrical and electronic equipment from Ohaus they are entitled
to:
- send old equipment for recycling on a one-for-one,
like-for-like basis (this varies depending on the country)
- send the new equipment back for recycling when this ultimately
becomes waste

facilities wishing to obtain disassembly information are provided

Safety Initiatives
If you work in the food processing or service industries, the
safety of your customers is paramount. This is why our food
industry portfolio includes a number of products specifically
designed to meet international food safety standards,
including:
- Certification to NSF/ANSI 169-2005 Special Purpose Food
Equipment and Devices,
- USDA/AMS Accepted to NSF/3-A 14159-1 Hygiene Requirements for
the Design of Meat and Poultry Processing Equipment
- Meeting requirements for HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical
Control Points) conformity
OHAUS has long been relied on by educators to help children
learn the principles of mass measurement. We therefore ensure that
our education products destined for use by young children in the
classroom comply with the regulations and requirements set forth by
the US Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) of 2008. The
CPSIA establishes consumer product safety standards for the
protection of children 12 years of age or younger. The regulations
of The Act include a general lead ban, ban on the use of phthalates
as well as mandatory third party testing. Based on the test results
provided by accredited third party testing laboratories, OHAUS has
issued General Certification Conformity for its complete range of
education products.
